• Hello! Thanks for checking out our site. We are a group of AP English students and our concern is the overuse of plastic bottles at Los Alamitos High School. The large amount of plastic that is used really hurts our environment, so our goal is to reduce this waste. Thanks for helping out!

Hydration Stations

The most often asked question is, "But what IS a Hydration Station?"

This is our attempt to straighten that out.

A Hydration Station is an automated, hands-free and plastic free way to get water to students without a negative environmental impact. We propose implementing these stations around campus and encouraging students to use reusable containers instead of traditional plastic bottles.

Oak Park, a California school district that implemented Hydration Stations said, "Students appreciate having reusable bottles to fill at the Hydration Station™. We see this as being an easy way for students to stay hydrated while reducing water consumption."

"According to the Environmental Protection Agency, only 7 percent of plastics generated in the United States is recycled. Pike, the Recycling Manager at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, believes that projects like UNLV’s hydration station can eventually play a big role in helping to reduce the amount of plastic bottles that end up in landfills"

“Sustainability is more about reducing and reusing than recycling,” Pike said. “That is exactly what the hydration station does.”
